The Greater Vidalia Chamber® held its 2026 Annual Meeting on Thursday, February 5, at the Vidalia Community Center, bringing together business leaders, elected officials, and community partners to celebrate accomplishments from the past year and outline priorities for the year ahead.
The meeting highlighted strong momentum in member engagement, business development, leadership initiatives, and advocacy efforts that continue to strengthen the Greater Vidalia business community.
Fueling Business- Member Engagement and Recognition
The Chamber reported significant strides in member engagement during 2025, including the introduction of Member Shout Outs to welcome new members and recognize renewing businesses, along with continued success of the Best of Greater Vidalia Awards. Ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, and new member growth further reflected the Chamber’s commitment to supporting local business visibility and success.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Chamber announced several new initiatives designed to deepen engagement and celebrate community impact, including an Awards Gala recognizing outstanding businesses and leaders, Flashback Fridays highlighting past ribbon cuttings and long-standing businesses, High 5 a Hero honoring first responders, and Where Are We Wednesdays showcasing local businesses and their work.
The Chamber will also continue popular programs such as Try It Tuesdays, Maximize Your Membership Luncheons, Business Spotlights, Hear from the Experts in the e-newsletter, the Business Expo, and Showcasing Greater Vidalia, ensuring that nearly every program provides meaningful exposure and value to member businesses.
A major focus of the evening was the Chamber’s REACH Program, implemented in 2019 to expand programming, volunteer engagement, and resources supporting the Chamber’s mission. Under the leadership of 2025 REACH Chair Wendell Dixon, the program experienced a record-breaking year following a comprehensive overhaul.
In 2025, REACH engaged 28 businesses for the first time, helped recruit 26 new Chamber members, and increased volunteer participation. The Chamber also recognized 2025 Vice Chairs Kailey Dees, Tim Truxel, and Garrett Wilcox, along with approximately 40 dedicated REACH volunteers. Special recognition was given to top volunteers Angela Lane, Rebekah Usher, and Pat Dixon for their exceptional service and commitment.
Empowering Leaders
Leadership development continues to be a cornerstone of the Chamber’s work. Leadership Greater Vidalia has graduated more than 500 participants since 1994, while the Greater Vidalia Youth Leadership program consistently serves students from public and private schools across Toombs and Montgomery counties. Through partnerships with the Chamber Board, the Toombs County Development Authority, local governments, schools, and community organizations, the Chamber continues to foster an environment that supports economic growth and long-term prosperity.
Strengthening Community
Business advocacy will remain a key priority, led by Business Advocacy Council Chair Mike Hagan. The Council’s mission includes promoting economic development, protecting business interests, educating members on key issues, taking positions on local and state matters, and working in a bipartisan manner for the benefit of the business community.
In addition to the annual Legislative Luncheon, the Chamber will host three quarterly State of the Community luncheons in 2026, focusing on emergency preparedness, rural development, and collaboration with city and county leadership.
Michele Johnson, President of the Greater Vidalia® Chamber, rounded out the program with current Chamber priorities. Entrepreneurship remains a major area of concentration for the Chamber. The first Idea Bootcamp, conducted January 23 by the Lucas Center for Entrepreneurship, marked an important milestone, with a second bootcamp scheduled for June 5. Partnerships with the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will continue to provide free consultations for entrepreneurs and existing businesses.
The Chamber’s business center currently houses four business suite tenants and one retail tenant, with growing awareness, increased tours, co-working memberships, and daily use of the facility.
Michele ended the meeting by offering a call to action to those seasoned business professional in the room, “The future of Greater Vidalia depends on leaders who are willing to serve, mentor, and invest beyond themselves. Our call to action is simple: step forward with servant leadership and help shape the next generation of entrepreneurs who will build businesses, create jobs, and strengthen our community for years to come.”
